Heard a weird jazzy cover of "Moondance" today and though of the dead doing this, say circa '79-81, before it become to schmaltzy for them, and with Bobby on lead of course. I think they probably would have nailed it if they had attempted it. What song to you wish they attempted like they did with i.e.(Blackbird, Hey Jude) and then they would have realized it could have become a regular feature in their ever expanding rotation of great covers? Years ago I was discussing this same thing with a friend's friends, and mentioned that I'd like to see them do "The Long Black Veil". One of them then broke out that ca. '62 Jerry & Sara coffeehouse recording, and there is was.

As for today's "what if"- Red Ball Rocket Train by Mac O'Dell would have been a cool old hillbilly song for Bob to put in the cowboy slot.
